Olen juuri lukenut Lawrence Solomonin kirjan The Deniers. Solomon on Torontossa ilmestyvän National Post lehden kolumnisti. Kirjasta tein lyhyen arvioinnin englanniksi:
The Deniers by Lawrence Solomon. 240 pages Hardcover. Richard Vigilante Books. April 2008. US$ 27.95
Lawrence Solomon, a columnist for National Post (Toronto) has written a book to praise those brave top-row climate scientists that dare oppose the official doctrine of man made global warming and the catastrophic climate change that will follow unless we switch from fossil fuels to renewables.
The deniers, as Solomon prefers to call these world-renowned scientist, come from various scientific disciplines. Although they all oppose the current climate hysteria, they all agree that global climate does vary at different time scales from decades to millennia and even millions of years. They all seem to have different views on what causes climate to change. They are not like Al Gore, who in his film “An Inconvenient Truth” has a very clear public message on what is the cause behind the present rise in global temperatures and vividly paints horror scenarios on what will happen if the use of fossil fuels is NOT drastically lowered.
Solomon has a history of environmentalism and activism with the intention to minimize the threat of global warming. He obviously planned to interview a few deniers and question their motives in a few columns and above all to show that they had been bought to lobby for nuclear or oil companies or some other political cause. The end result was not really what he had planned.
Initially he though that after interviewing a few hardliners he would suffer a lack of scientists willing to expose themselves, but he confesses that even after writing the book on almost 30 deniers he still has a backlog of some 100 very prominent scientist who oppose the official doctrine of man made global warming.
The view that man made global warming is a fact, and that unless drastic remedial measures are immediately implemented, millions of people will suffer from extreme climate events, a view that has impregnated the media, governments around the World, and naturally the broad public.
For those individuals who would like to understand the ongoing climate change debate will find the book very informative and really worthwhile reading. Like Solomon many readers indoctrinated in the official paradigm of manmade global warming might not be fully convinced by the “proof of a megahype” presented by the Deniers. However, those who have even a slightest doubt about the “scientific consensus” on how greenhouse gases are endangering human life, will surely find the book very helpful in converting them to denierism. Anyhow, the science of climate change is by no means settled.
